Propoganda...not so much

This week's readings are about propoganda and its main characteristics. The main concern of propoganda is to convince the masses. It does this convincing in an underhanded and confrontational way. Many tacrics include pitting 'us' against 'them' and only outling the facts that support our cause. To acknowledge any facts of the other side would be to admit defeat. Propogandists also speak in generalities about their enemy that center around one main message. Propoganda trie to align itself with a cause or emotion their audiences favorbale identifies with; such as the American flag or a celebrity leader. While trying to recall any propaganda I have received from the LWV, I cannot remember any. Either they use genuine information or they are very good at hiding it? When I think of propaganda, I think of movies, posters, and leaflets.  The LWV does not use commercials or leaflets with pictures. The majority of their information comes in the form of press releases and member news letters. These never contain pictures. Perhaps they could benefit from using more emotional appeals and images in their stories.
Right now, the LWV is focusing on voter rights and the new voter id bills that are being introduced around the nation. THE LWV takes the side that any restriction that limits citizens' abilities to vote is wrong. Their main tactic is education. Posting news articles to their website about the issue and getting petition forms passed around for signatures. While these tactics are educational I am skeptical of the impact they actually have. They seem to lack a way for average people to get involved. While I'm sure top organization leaders are very involved I feel their is a lack of connection with lower members who may have other jobs and such going on. Very ethical, though some of the news articles they quote are openly mocking of the Republican party. The more I see, the less I believe they are actually nonpartisan.
